Suggestions for Andrew Scheer and the CPC for future Virtue Signalling

by Lazarus on Friday, June 9, 2017 6:33 AM
In the interests of helping the CPC find new ways to virtue signal and gain media plaudits, after their success with the environmental/green crowd, I have come up with a few suggestions for Andrew Scheer and his Caucus.

Pride season is coming up and there will be plenty of parades and events where the CPC can show their big tent look. Perhaps Andrew Scheer could take part in the Toronto Pride Parade, either marching arm in arm with Premier Wynne and Justin Trudeau and show their support for the LGBTQWERTY crowd or with the leather crowd where he could march while whipping his caucus in public.

Then there is the opportunity to unify the pro-choice and pro-life factions by marching and demonstrating with both factions showing, once again, the inclusiveness of the party.

Later in the summer will come the Calgary Stampede where the CPC can...

The dubious value of Virtue Signalling

After years of watching conservatives mocking progressive types for virtue signalling, it was a bizarre feeling to watch these same conservatives explain how the Andrew Scheer whipped caucus voted to support the Liberal’s motion of support for the Paris Accord was necessary and politically astute.

The argument they used is this; yes, the Paris Accord targets are voluntary, the targets unattainable and even if they were reached, would do little to effect any climate change. So by voting in support of the Accord, it sends a signal that the Conservative Party of Canada is a kinder, gentler and more environmentally friendly party. This in turn will render the party safe from criticism by progressive environmental groups, the media and the governing Liberals.

This sounds good until you look at what else is said. The same new adherents to virtue signalling also assure others that the CPC opposes any Carbon Tax that would monetize carbon emissions. This is a good thing in itself, but...
